OASA: Increase in ticket validations in 2024 compared with 2023

According to Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA), this increase in passengers/validations is reflected, of course, in the group’s receipts.

Specifically, an increase of 13.5% was recorded in the group’s receipts in 2024, compared to the year 2023. From September 2024 onwards, revenues showed a steady increase, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, despite reduced fares, e.g. single ticket 1.2 euros (from 1.4 euros). Particularly increased is the traffic on the airport lines, which contribute to the 23% increase in receipts.

Also noteworthy is the penetration of the EMV – Tap & Pay application, which is available from April 2024 to passengers travelling with the Airport Express bus lines.

Passengers are discovering and using the new bank card payment facility at an increasing rate. Since the start of the pilot application, more than 90,000 users have used the service and the average transaction amounts to 9% of all transactions carried out on Express buses. Equally important, however, are the accounts of the targeted actions to deal with fare evasion, implemented in collaboration with the

Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport from September 2024. Specifically, the number of controls and imposed fines now shows an average monthly increase of 50% and 45% respectively, compared to the previous year.

The Chief Executive officer of OASA, Georgios Spiliopoulos, in a statement pointed out: “In 2024, the movements on the OASA Group network increased significantly, contributing to a corresponding increase in revenues, and this reflects the strengthening of the passenger public’s trust in the transportation services offered. We daily improve the provided services with a vision, plan and method.”
