Adonis Georgiades: Twenty new recruitments for EOPYY pharmacies in the next few hours-The new operating model

Adonis Georgiadis recently made the announcement of the first decisive steps to tackle citizens’ inconvenience in EOPPY pharmacies.

After the broad meeting he had at the offices of the ministry with EOPYY, the pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacists, the Minister of Health specified the first three measures.

“First, we are proceeding to recruit 20 pharmacists within the next 24 hours to strengthen EOPYY’s pharmacies, which have been facing issues and to speed up the service to patients,” he remarked.

Adonis Georgiades, was quick to address the other two measures.

According to the Health Minister, “secondly, we are moving from today to other hubs, which we have defined in the announcement, the 1A drugs that are for hospital use, so that there is no overlap in the filling of these prescriptions, which are of mass production and large, with the people waiting in line. This will reduce approximately by 10% traffic in the larger pharmacies of EOPYY.”

Adonis Georgiades confirmed as a third step that he has reached an agreement with pharmacists and companies on a general plan of how to transfer part of the prescriptions performed by the EOPYY pharmacies to private pharmacies.

“We have agreed between the industry, EOPYY and the pharmacies on a general plan for the transfer of some of the prescriptions that are performed by the EOPYY pharmacies to private pharmacies if the patient wishes to do so.’’

We are not yet ready to offer the exact timeframe, as there will also have to be an internal governmental discussion on how we will perform a correct cost-benefit analysis.”

Concluding his intervention, the health minister referred to the timing of the publication of the final plan and insisted that EOPYY pharmacies will not be closed under any circumstances.

“I expect that the final plan for this will be ready in about ten days from today. However, I think the general idea has been put on the right footing and there is now a common code of communication between EOPYY, the pharmaceutical industry and pharmacies. I would like to emphasise that our full plan to reduce inconvenience in the pharmacies of EOPYY does not mean the closure of EOPYY pharmacies. EOPYY pharmacies will continue to operate as normal. We are only talking about the possibility of an alternative way of supplying certain high-cost medicines (HCPs) through private pharmacies, Adonis Georgiades concluded.
