Greece’s state budget primary surplus at 8.7 billion euros in 2024

A significant part of the difference in relation to the target was due to an increase of cash revenue from the Public Investments Programme by 612 million euros and from the rollover of military procurement payments to 2025.

The state budget primary surplus stood at 8.7 billion euros in 2024, according to the final budget execution data announced by the finance ministry on Monday, compared to a target for a primary surplus of 4.635 billion euros and a primary surplus of 3.920 billion euros in 2023.

According to the state budget execution data, on a modified cash basis, in the period January-December 2024, a surplus in the state budget balance of 369 million euros was recorded, compared to the target for a deficit of 3,601 million euros, which had been included for the corresponding period of 2024 in the introductory report of the 2025 Budget, and a deficit of 3,760 million euros in the corresponding period of 2023.
