Alonissos Island Named a Top Destination for Solo Travelers in 2025

The Greek island of Alonissos has been recognized as the 3rd best destination worldwide for solo travelers in 2025, according to Lonely Planet. The travel authority highlighted 23 destinations ideal for solo adventures, emphasizing the growing trend and the importance of careful destination selection for a successful solo trip.

Alonissos earns its high ranking thanks to its unique natural beauty, characterized by pine forests and turquoise waters. Lonely Planet praises the island’s escape from mass tourism, creating a welcoming atmosphere that fosters a relaxed pace of life. Visitors can explore charming alleys, scenic paths, historic chapels, and the picturesque Old Alonissos. The island also boasts one of Europe’s largest National Marine Parks and the Peristera shipwreck, an exceptional underwater museum.

Iceland and Lisbon secured the top two spots on Lonely Planet’s list, followed by Alonissos. The top 10 also includes the Copper Coast (Ireland), Munich (Germany), Sikkim (India), Chiang Mai (Thailand), Vietnam, Singapore, and Uzbekistan. Other destinations on the list represent locations across the USA, Japan, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Belize, Ecuador, Peru, South and West Africa, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand.

In anticipation of the upcoming season, the Municipality of Alonissos has proactively engaged with travel writers, tourism professionals, and international media at the London international tourism exhibition. These efforts aim to showcase the island’s potential and diverse tourism offerings.
