February begins with a wave of unsettled weather across Greece, as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and snowfall are set to impact various regions.

Residents should prepare for stormy conditions, particularly on Monday and Tuesday, as an umbrella will be an essential item for those venturing outdoors.

Already on Monday morning, rain showers were recorded in western Greece, gradually extending to cover most of the country. The temperature is expected to reach up to 20°C, while winds will range between 3 and 8 on the Beaufort scale. In Attica, the day will be marked by continuous rain, with temperatures fluctuating between 9°C and 16°C, and winds at 2 to 4 Beaufort. Thessaloniki will experience similar weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 15°C and winds reaching 3 to 6 Beaufort.

Tuesday 04-02: Persistent Rain and Snow in Higher Elevations

The inclement weather will persist into Tuesday, with rainfall expected in Thessaly, the Sporades, Central Greece, Euboea, the northeastern Aegean islands, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, and Crete. Coastal and sea regions may see occasional thunderstorms, while snowfall is forecast for central and northern mountainous areas. As the day progresses, precipitation will begin to subside in Crete and the Dodecanese.

In other parts of the country, cloudy conditions will dominate, with occasional local rain or sleet in the north. Winds in western Greece will blow east-northeast at 3 to 5 Beaufort, reaching up to 6 Beaufort in the Patraikos Gulf. In eastern Greece, winds will be stronger, from the north at 5 to 7 Beaufort, increasing to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.

Temperatures will drop significantly in northern and eastern regions, ranging from 5°C to 7°C, with a maximum of 7°C to 9°C. In the central and southern regions, temperatures will remain between 10°C and 12°C, while in western Greece and the islands, they may reach 14°C to 17°C. Frost is expected in northern parts of the mainland during morning and evening hours.

Wednesday 05-02: Cold Temperatures and Strong Winds Continue

By midweek, rain will persist in the southern Ionian, Thessaly, the Sporades, eastern Sterea, Evia, the Cyclades, Crete, and the northeastern Aegean islands. Showers may also affect the eastern Peloponnese and central Macedonia. Snowfall is expected in mountainous regions, including Crete and Evia. Elsewhere, skies will be partly cloudy.

Winds will maintain their strength, with northwesterly gusts of 6 to 7 Beaufort in the east, increasing to 8 or even 9 Beaufort in the Aegean, particularly in southeastern regions. Temperatures will continue to drop, reaching seasonally low levels. Frost is likely in central and northern parts of the mainland during morning and evening hours.

Thursday 06-02: A Gradual Clearing with Cold Temperatures

The weather will begin to stabilize slightly on Thursday, with scattered clouds and occasional light rain in eastern mainland Greece, the Cyclades, and Crete. Light snowfall is expected in the mountains of Central Greece, Euboea, the Peloponnese, and Crete. In western Peloponnese, cloud cover will gradually increase.

Winds in western Greece will shift to the south at 3 to 5 Beaufort, while in eastern regions, they will continue from the north at 6 to 7 Beaufort, with the Aegean experiencing gusts of up to 8 Beaufort. A gradual weakening of winds is expected later in the day.

Temperatures will remain steady, with frost occurring in mainland regions during the morning and evening.

Friday 07-02: Slight Warming Trend with Localised Showers

By Friday, western Greece will see increasing cloud cover, leading to local rain showers and possible isolated thunderstorms in the northwest by the evening. Elsewhere, skies will remain partly cloudy, with light snowfall anticipated in central and northern mountainous areas.

Winds will blow from the south in the west at 3 to 5 Beaufort, while in the east, they will remain northerly at 4 to 6 Beaufort. A slight rise in temperatures is forecast, particularly in central and southern regions, though frost will still be present in the morning and evening on the mainland.

As February unfolds, Greece remains under the grip of winter weather, with significant temperature drops, strong winds, and persistent precipitation. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions while traveling.
