I want to once again assure the residents of Santorini, as well as the residents of the neighbouring islands who are now going through a difficult time, that the state mechanism is at their side. Obviously, it is much better to be prepared and anticipate events than to rush to deal with them afterwards. I again recommend keeping calm, listening to the civil protection service's instructions and we hope that this phenomenon will end and the island return to its normal life," he noted.

I am in Santorini, along with the civil protection minister and the regional governor of the Southern Aegean, to supervise the preparations of the state mechanism to deal with this active geological phenomenon which is in progress,” stated Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit to the island of Santorini on Friday.

“The entire state mechanism has been mobilised. We listen to the instructions and the directions of the experts who, on their part, advise the civil protection service. We will continue to monitor the phenomenon. We will not make any scientific estimations. It is the job of others to do this and advise us, as they have done until now. Santorini Mayor: We have the certainty and security that the state supports us

Santorini mayor Nikos Zorzos on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is visiting the island accompanied by Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias. Mitsotakis went to the Fire Department of Thera(Santorini), to the Olympus mobile operations centre, the island’s general hospital, as well as the indoors sports facility DAPPOS, where the rescue teams have set up their tents.

Zorzos thanked him for the “cooperation with the responsible ministries and the ministers” as well as “his own persistence” as he said, in supporting Santorini.

“Following the exceptional preparation made on the part of the state mechanism against any possible danger, the arrival of the premier indicates his special interest, which he has also shown in the past, for our island. I am certain that this period will end well. We have the certainty and security that we have the state’s support, both as regards the danger as well as the island’s future development,” Zorzos said.
