A high-level meeting was held on Thursday, February 6, under the leadership of Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, focusing on safeguarding the cultural assets of the Cyclades.
According to the Ministry’s statement, as soon as seismic activity was detected, the responsible archaeological authority followed standard protocols and took precautionary actions.
Key Measures Implemented:
- At the Museum of Prehistoric Thera and the Archaeological Museum, exhibits have been relocated to lower shelves, and protective materials have been placed to prevent potential damage in case of further seismic events.
- Special care has been taken for fragile items, such as glass display cases, large pottery vessels, and sculptures, to minimize any risk.
- In the Akrotiri archaeological site, workshops and storage areas have been secured according to safety requirements.
- Similar measures have been applied to other islands where seismic activity has been felt.
