Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s role as a key player in European artificial intelligence (AI) development, speaking at the Summit on Action in the Field of Artificial Intelligence in Paris.
“Greece is not just participating in this international AI conference—we are actively shaping European developments in this critical sector,” Mitsotakis stated upon his arrival at the summit.
He emphasised that Greece is among the first countries to develop a comprehensive national AI strategy and is one of only seven European nations to receive the AI Factory distinction—a major EU funding initiative aimed at boosting AI infrastructure across Europe.

“We have a highly skilled scientific talent pool specialising in AI, and our country has already attracted significant investment from major international technology firms, leading to the establishment of large-scale data processing and AI centres in Greece,” Mitsotakis noted.
However, he also underscored the importance of responsible AI governance, stressing that governments must intervene where necessary to mitigate AI’s potential risks while maximising its benefits.
“Greece is already leveraging AI to enhance public administration efficiency and productivity. Our goal is not only to drive a ‘productivity revolution’ but also to identify areas where state oversight is essential to curb AI’s negative consequences,” he said.
The summit provides Greece with an opportunity to further establish itself as a leading force in European AI policy, fostering international collaborations and ensuring that technological advancements align with ethical and regulatory safeguards.
