“Supporting public transport in the capital is a central goal for the government,” stated Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday, while visiting the Road Transport (OSY) depot in Rentis, where new electric and natural gas buses are housed, in the presence of Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras and the Deputy Minister, Vassilis Oikonomou.

Mitsotakis was briefed by the CEO of OSY, Stefanos Agiasoglou, about the 100 new midi-type electric buses, each nine metres long, which have now serving OSY bus lines, in addition to the 278 new buses with anti-pollution technology already in circulation in Attica.

By the end of February, the fleet serving Attica will have been increased by 405 vehicles, thus upgrading the quality of services provided to passengers and easing traffic on the streets of the capital, within the framework of the target for the acquisition of 950 new buses in total within 2025.

At the same time, government sources announced that a new international tender has been announced for the acquisition of another 125 electric buses, of 12 metres in length, for public transport in Attica, which is to be completed in the summer of 2026 and will make use of European funds.

The prime minister also had the opportunity to learn about the technologically advanced applications of the new buses, such as the breathalyzer in the driver’s seat. Now, every driver will undergo a breathalyzer test and the bus will only start if the test is negative.
