A 1,500-year-old Byzantine cistern next to Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, transformed into a luxurious spa center operated by Navitas Spa Sarnıç within the Hilton hotel, has sparked controversy and legal action. Following complaints, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and local authorities have sealed the business, emphasizing the need for cultural preservation.

The spa, operated by Navitas Spa Sarnıç and located within the five-star Hilton hotel, offered high-end wellness services in a uniquely atmospheric setting. The cistern itself, an underground structure built approximately 1,500 years ago, was originally intended for water storage to supply the city of Constantinople. Its impressive architecture is considered a valuable example of Byzantine heritage.
