Tensions flared as police set up a roadblock to prevent them from reaching a hotel where Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was speaking at the Thessaloniki Summit 2025.

Greek farmers escalated their protests on Monday, blocking roads and demanding government action on their grievances.

Tensions flared as police set up a roadblock to prevent them from reaching a hotel where Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was speaking at the Thessaloniki Summit 2025.

At the junction of Kolettis Street and Old Station Street, farmers clashed with authorities, insisting on their right to proceed. Rizos Maroudas, a farmers’ representative, urged police to let them through. According to Thesstoday, the farmers, chanting slogans in support of their cause, refused to back down, declaring, “Enough is enough.” Eventually, authorities allowed them to advance but stopped them again further down Kolettis Street.

Calls for a Meeting with the Prime Minister

After learning that Mitsotakis had already left the summit, farmers vowed to continue their demonstrations until their demands are heard. They also announced plans to request a direct meeting with the Prime Minister in Athens.

Despite the confrontation, the protest remained peaceful. Shortly before 9:00 PM, the farmers dispersed and returned home, but they pledged to maintain road blockades until their voices are acknowledged.

This latest demonstration is part of ongoing farmer protests in Greece, as the agricultural sector continues to struggle with economic pressures, high production costs, and policy concerns.
