Strong Winds Keep Ships Docked in Greece

Ships departing from the ports of Piraeus and Rafina bound for the Cyclades islands will remain docked due to a sailing ban imposed as severe weather conditions have rocked Greece since Tuesday.

According to meteorological reports, stormy winds in the Aegean Sea will reach up to 9 on the Beaufort scale, leading to cancellations and modifications of ferry schedules on Wednesday.

Passengers with scheduled trips are advised to check for updates through official ferry websites, local port authorities, or travel agencies to avoid disruptions to their plans.

Affected Routes

• Ferry services to the Saronic Gulf islands are operating only with closed-type vessels.
• The Agia Marina – Nea Styra, Kavala – Prinos, and Kavala – Thassos ferry lines are also suspended.
• Services on the Volos – Sporades route are expected to resume at 10:00 AM.

Drastic Temperature Drop and Severe Weather

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) has updated its emergency weather warning, confirming no significant changes from its initial alert issued on Monday.

Forecasts indicate a sharp drop in temperature by 12 to 15 degrees Celsius, accompanied by heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in mountainous and semi-mountainous regions. Snowfall may also occur in lower-altitude areas of eastern mainland Greece.

Gale-force northern and northeastern winds reaching 8 to 9 Beaufort will sweep across the Aegean and eastern mainland regions from Tuesday afternoon until late Wednesday evening.
