Archbishop Elpidophoros of America gifts President Trump holy cross, compares him to Constantine the Great

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America presented President Donald Trump with a Holy Cross during Greek Independence celebrations at the White House on Monday.

“Through your leadership, you embody the values of our Christian faith and love for the Gospel,” the Archbishop said. “You remind me of the great Roman Emperor Constantine the Great.”

The gesture underscored Trump’s support for the Greek-American community which dates back two centuries.

“This emperor is the one who founded and built the magnificent city of Constantinople, my birthplace”, he said.

“This cross is the very symbol that led this great Roman emperor to victory”, he said. “With this cross I pray that you bring peace to the world and make America invincible.”

Among the notable guests were Katerina Nassika, Greece’s Ambassador to the U.S., Evangelos Savvas, Cyprus’s Ambassador, and congressional candidate Jimmy Patronis, whom Trump mentioned is “doing well in the polls.”

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the nominated U.S. Ambassador to Athens, joined Trump onstage and delivered a speech highlighting his dedication to Greek-American relations. “He loves Greece,” she stated. “Under President Trump, you can be confident that a man is fighting for our economies, religious freedom, and the strong alliance between Washington and Athens.”
