Mitsotakis urges Greek doctors in the US to return

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday urged Greek doctors working in the United States to return to Greece, saying the relevant regulation that would allow them to automatically recognize their specialty and specialization will be signed in the coming days.

Doctors who have acquired a specialty in the US, which has been certified by the competent US body, will be able to recognize their specialty automatically in Greece, by submitting a simple application to the Panhellenic Medical Association. Regarding specialization, recognition will be automatic upon submission of the certificate, as long as the specific specialization officially exists in Greece.

“We decided with the minister and the deputy minister to cut the Gordian knot and bring a provision that automatically recognizes specialty and specialization to those who are certified in the United States by the corresponding bodies, so that we can solve this bureaucratic problem, which I understand is troubling many of you. And of course, with the reasoning that this provision may also help in the repatriation of some Greeks who are in the United States,” Mitsotakis said in a teleconference with ministers and doctors on both sides of the Atlantic.

The relevant ministerial decision is expected to be signed in the coming days and the legislative regulation for the specialization section is expected to be submitted to Parliament within the week.
