Diplomats in Greece express support for 2025 Athens Pride

Twenty-seven embassies and diplomatic missions in Greece expressed their solidarity with the LGBTQI+ communities of Greece, saying they will participate in the upcoming Athens Pride 2025 on June 14, which will mark the 20th anniversary of the event in the country.
“More than a year after Greece’s landmark legislation on marriage and adoption equality, we celebrate the progress that has been made, while recognizing that the journey towards full equality continues. At a time when hard-won rights are being challenged around the world, we remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting and promoting the rights and dignity of all individual,” the diplomatic missions said in a joint press release.
“We reaffirm that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex persons are entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms. We support equal treatment and non-discrimination in every aspect of the lives of LGBTQI+ persons,” they added, saying they hoped the message will inspire wider support and action for “a more just, inclusive and equal future for every member of society.”
The missions co-signing the statement are: Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Estonia, the European Commission Representation in Greece, the European Parliament Office in Greece, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Canada, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Mexico, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Finland.
This year’s Athens Pride is adopting the slogan “We Count”.
