The appointment was finalized during a meeting between Menounos and HOC President, Isidoros Kouvelos, at the Committee’s headquarters in Athens. The HOC praised Menounos’ enduring commitment to Greece and her influence in the United States, stating that her role will significantly support the visibility and presence of the Greek Olympic team.
According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), 665 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in 2024, while Greece remains among the European Union countries with the highest rates of road fatalities. Data from the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) ranks Greece seventh across the bloc for traffic-related deaths.
The meeting brought together Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, Attica Governor Nikos Hardalias, Minister of State Akis Skertsos and a clutch of police, coast-guard and municipal leaders, each determined to safeguard what makes the Saronic pair special.
Dr. Bodo Winter, a linguist from the University of Birmingham, led a study that had participants listen to the pronunciation of 100 names. By analyzing their responses, researchers pinpointed which name resonated most as beautiful.
The official swearing-in ceremony is set for 11:00 AM in the plenary hall of the Hellenic Parliament, where Archbishop Ieronymos will lead the religious service.
