Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and political leaders are scheduled to speak.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and political leaders are scheduled to speak.
Emphasising the historical significance of the event, Mitsotakis stated, “On the 50th anniversary since the restoration of Democracy to the country that gave birth to it, I wanted to be in the Parliament, in the place that the dictatorship desecrated for 7 years.”
"We do not formulate our foreign policy, especially our national positions, on the basis of the different circumstances," he pointed out and emphasized:
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen expressed her support for Cyprus and its reunification efforts on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made provocative statements regarding the Cyprus issue during a recent flight back from the occupied territories, emphasizing the need for a two-state model as the sole solution to the longstanding conflict.
The declaration, while largely symbolic given the decades of peace between the two nations, highlights the lingering impact of past conflicts on contemporary relations. The Albanian Parliament expressed hope that the repeal would serve as a powerful gesture of reconciliation and further bolster the existing cooperation between Albania and Greece.
