Europa Nostra, the leading civil society network for European cultural heritage, together with the European Investment Bank (EIB) Institute, published the list of the 7 most endangered cultural heritage sites and monuments in Europe for 2025.
In its analysis, the German media outlet said investments can no longer be split across multiple properties
The demand is particularly high among investors from China, Turkey, Lebanon, the UK, and the US. In 2024, 7,052 applications were submitted in the first ten months, marking a 2.3% increase compared to 2023. Chinese nationals led the charge with 6,521 applications, followed by 1,115 from Turkey and 717 from Lebanon.
In a significant boost to regional tourism, Greece’s visa-on-arrival program has drawn more than 100,000 Turkish tourists since its inception on April 1, 2024. Turkish nationals now have the opportunity to explore select Greek islands, such as Rhodes , Lesbos , and Samos using a simplified entry process at a cost of 60 euros ($63), without the need for a full Schengen visa. This arrangement allows stays ranging from one to seven days.
