Greece is currently experiencing its first heatwave of 2024, and firefighters have been battling numerous wildfires daily. Initially, authorities alleged that fireworks were launched directly from the yacht. However, Greek media now report that the fireworks may have been launched from a beach on the island after people on Persephoni took a boat to shore.
According to reports, the yacht had been chartered by a group of foreign nationals, including Kazakh oligarchs with ties to the country’s corrupt former president and the state oil company.
Questions have arisen as to whether Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama’s visit to Athens will finally be allowed on May 12, when he is scheduled to address a gathering of Albanian immigrants, members and friends of his party.
The rally had originally been planned to be held at the Galatsi Olympic Hall, before permission was revoked by the municipality due to other planned activities.
The Albanian PM had unofficially announced his intention to visit Athens through close associate Endri Fuga, who was in Greece a few days ago.
“Laura Kövesi brought about the downfall of the Romanian government,” he remarked before being asked whether he hoped for a similar outcome in Greece.
