Hundreds of thousands of people rallied in cities and towns across Greece on Friday to demand justice on the second anniversary of the country’s deadliest-ever train crash.
Student associations from across the country have organized demonstrations under the central slogan, “I have no more oxygen.”
The sum, divided equally among the inspector’s wife and three children (€200,000 each for moral damages), was awarded based on the court’s finding that both the Greek rail operator OSE and private operator Hellenic Train bear responsibility for the collision due to communication and safety system failures.
His remarks followed mass protests on Sunday, where demonstrators demanded justice for the victims of the 2023 train crash, reigniting public and political debate over the tragedy.
